What Decentralised Storage Actually Means for Your Nextcloud
Most Nextcloud admins have heard the term "decentralised storage" but aren't sure what it means in practice. Here's what it is, how it works, and why it changes the resilience calculus for your infrastructure.
Most storage infrastructure is built around a single question: where is the server? Whether it's a rack in your data centre or a bucket in someone else's cloud, your files ultimately live in one place. And that single place, however well-maintained, is a single point of failure.
Decentralised storage flips that assumption. Instead of routing files to one location, the data is split into chunks and distributed across hundreds of independent nodes. No single node holds a complete copy. No single outage can take your files offline.
